HACLA and Top Dawg Entertainment Host a 2-Day Holiday Concert and Toy Giveaway at Nickerson Gardens

The Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) and Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) came together for the fourth year to host a 2-day TDE and Friends Holiday Concert and Toy Drive/Giveaway at Nickerson Gardens in Watts, CA.

Every year, artists from TDE such as Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, SZA, Jay Rock, Isaiah Rashad, Ab-Soul, SiR and Lance Skiiwalker take the stage at the Nickerson Baseball Field to perform their hit songs. This year, Rihanna and E-40 joined the stage as special guests.

The free annual concert brings together the local community and concert-goers from the region for a celebration that focuses on giving back to the community of Watts. Different from the previous years, concert attendees were asked to bring in an unwrapped gift that were donated the following day to children ages 0-12 residing at Nickerson Gardens as well as to children from the community of Watts. More than 4,000 toys were donated this day.

TDE founder Anthony “TopDawg” Tiffith and TDE artist Jay Rock were both raised in Nickerson Gardens making this event more meaningful and memorable. Each year this event provides the local children with a chance to feel the joy of the holiday season with gifts, clothing, food and the opportunity to see their hometown heroes up close through a free concert.

During his performance, Kendrick Lamar talked about the significance of the event: “If you don’t do it for nobody else, do it for the kids.”
