For the second year the law firm of Liebert Cassidy and Whitmore (LCW) awarded scholarships to Housing Authority youth. Eric Lopez and Jacqueline Hernandez were this year’s recipients. Both are residents of the Jordan Downs public housing community. LCW provides the scholarships through a commitment under the Housing Authority’s Section 3 Program. Each year LCW provides scholarships to two deserving youth to assist them with college expenses.
Eric is a second year student at California State University, Northridge. He lives at Jordan Downs with his mother, sister and two brothers. Eric carries many responsibilities in his home, balancing work and school can prove challenging at times. However, he understands the importance of getting a good education. In addition to his studies, Eric is enrolled in the Summer Youth Program which provides temporary employment opportunities to youth during the summer months.
Jacqueline graduated from Huntington Park High School with a 3.5 GPA and was accepted to University of California, Davis. She comes from a single parent household and has a younger sister. Jacqueline says that her mother works as a hotel housekeeper and has always pushed her to value education, be successful, and not let her humble beginnings dictate her future. We couldn’t agree more!
Congratulations to both our 2017 LCW scholarship winners!
