HACLA was awarded an “U.S. Communities Excellence in Cooperative Purchasing Award” during its May Board of Commissioners meeting. Rob Fiorilli, Senior Program Manager with the U.S. Communities Purchasing Alliance presented the award to the agency, recognizing the General Services Department for its effective and efficient purchasing practices. U.S. Communities identified HACLA as a key enthusiast for innovative procurement practices via its continuous use of the U. S. Communities contract offerings which provide for greater economy and efficiency in purchasing.

The U.S. Communities Purchasing Alliance is a nonprofit government purchasing cooperative that reduces the cost of goods and services for participating public agencies by aggregating their purchasing power nationwide. It is the only cooperative purchasing program founded by National Association of Counties, National League of Cities, Association of School Business Officials, United States Conference of Mayors and National Governors Association. The use of the U.S. Communities contracts have demonstrated cost savings thereby stretching public tax dollars through best value public procurement. HUD encourages housing agencies to purchase items under contracts awarded by other public agencies as it results in efficiency in government operations. HACLA has increasingly utilized these types of contracts for purchasing goods as the greater purchasing power results in cost savings for the agency and administrative efficiencies
