March 3, 2020 - EMCOR Services (Mesa Energy Systems) held an HVAC Training Seminar for HACLA’s public housing residents. The training was part of HACLA’s Section 3 program to offer other economic opportunities to Section 3 residents when jobs are not feasible. Almost twenty residents from Estrada Courts and Jordan Downs participated in the training session, with several residents immediately expressing interest in enrollment process to become HVAC certified.
The session was made possible by EMCOR Services, in coordination with HVAC/Southern California Pipe Trades District Council 16 and Local 250 Pipefitters, Welders & Apprentice of the United Association. It provided Section 3 Residents with an opportunity to learn from EMCOR and union representatives about a career in HVAC. The union representatives explained the steps in becoming HVAC certified, daily duties, and what one can expect on the job. Participants learned about the application process, minimum qualifications, available courses and benefits of an HVAC career. The attendees also had the opportunity to hear personal stories from guests on how the trade union has changed their lives.
During this session attendees also heard about training and apprenticeship programs in plumbing, steamfitter and industrial pipefitter. Interested Section 3 residents will be working with the unions, HACLA and the Watts LA Worksource Center for further assistance in their journey to become part of the apprentice program.
Thanks to partners like EMCOR, HACLA is able to bring these resources to our public housing communities and provide them information and tools in support of their job training, employment and educational goals.
